How long is a pass valid?

GOV.UK does not set a normal expiry period for a successful Life in the UK Test result. The key rule is that someone who has already passed does not need to take the test again.

Can you reuse a pass for citizenship?

Normally, yes. GOV.UK explicitly gives the example of a person applying to become a citizen after passing the test as part of a settlement application.

How is a pass recorded?

Successful candidates now receive a unique reference number. You enter it in the relevant citizenship or settlement application, and the Home Office uses it to verify the result. Tests taken before 17 December 2019 may instead be evidenced by a letter with a test reference ID.

What if you lose an older letter?

GOV.UK says that if you took the test before 17 December 2019 and lost the letter, include a letter with your citizenship or settlement application explaining that it has been lost. Do not pay for another test simply because the old letter is missing.

When might you need to take a test?

You may still need to take the test if you never passed, cannot satisfy the requirement under your route, or a decision-maker cannot verify the evidence you provide. Check the exact GOV.UK guidance for your application and get regulated advice if your records are unusual.

Do retake rules affect pass validity?

No. Retake rules concern candidates who did not pass. Current GOV.UK guidance says failed candidates can rebook as many times as needed and pay for every attempt; it does not state a mandatory seven-day waiting period.
